This training provides an opportunity to learn about the LGBTQ+ community, specifically the student community and recognise the barriers that LGBTQ+ people experience within education, work and society and disparities in the access of support. The session will explore the support needs of LGBTQ+ students and how staff can develop more inclusive practice within their roles to ensure LGBTQ+ students feel safe, supported and have a sense of belonging at the University.
1. To develop understanding of umbrella term ‘LGBTQ+’ and the different sexuality and gender identities.
2. To understand the challenges and discrimination that LGBTQ+ individuals face across the world today.
3. To explore best practice for creating an LGBTQ+ inclusive environment for students apply practical tips that are supported by university policy and guidance.
3b. To role model that people come before policy.
All staff are welcome on this training as all staff have a responsibility to ensure the University’s aim to provide a working and learning environment, which is free from discrimination and enables students to fulfil their personal potential.
Staff should make themselves familiar with relevant EDI policies e.g. Dignity at Work and Study
