Speaker's BiographyAled Roberts was appointed Welsh Language Commissioner by the Welsh Government in April 2019. He is a former member of the Senedd who represented the region of North Wales as a member of the Liberal Democrats from 2011 until 2016. Before his election to the Senedd, he was a Councillor and the leader of Wrexham County Borough Council.

The Welsh Language Commissioner, Aled Roberts, will be one of the keynote speakers at a one-day conference to consider the situation of the Welsh language in the wake of COVID-19. The conference, organised by Academi Hywel Teifi, is being held on Zoom on 10 March 2021.
The aim of the conference Gofid neu Gyfle? Y Gymraeg yn y 'Normal Newydd’ (A Worry or an Opportunity? Welsh in the 'New Normal') will be to assess the impact of the pandemic on various aspects of life and work in the context of the Welsh language.

Papers will be 20 minutes in length with questions to follow and delivered in Welsh with simultaneous translation provided. Everyone can attend the conference free of charge and drop into sessions during the day whenever convenient.
